A community Islamic school in Falgore, Kano State, raising confident learners of sound character.

Our Story

Built by the community, for the community

The journey of Fathul Majiyd Academy – Falgore, from its founding to the present day.

Fathul Majiyd Academy – Falgore

Fathul Majiyd Academy – Falgore was founded by Jama'atu Izalatil Bid'a Wa'iqamatus Sunnah, Falgore, with the vision of providing quality education rooted in sound Islamic values, moral discipline, academic excellence and responsible character development.

The school was established as an extension of the main school located in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State and commenced operations in December 2012, with an initial enrolment of approximately 91 students.

From its inception, the Academy was established to provide children with a balanced educational experience, combining quality Western education with sound Islamic education and character development. The school operated both morning and evening sessions, enabling it to serve children with different educational needs. Western education was primarily offered during the morning session, while Islamic education followed in the subsequent session.

Our Early Years

In its formative years, the school operated under the leadership of Malam Abdullahi Umar, who served as Headmaster, with Sani Ismail serving as his deputy and Alh. Umar Abdullahi as the school coordinator.

The school initially operated from a temporary location at Gidan Hajiya Yar Nomau. It subsequently moved to Gidan Alh. Samaila Dan Falgore, where it remained for approximately one week before relocating to the residence of Alh. Ali Mai Bidiyo at Bakin Kasuwa, Falgore. The school operated from this location for several years before eventually moving to its permanent premises at Ƙofar Gari, opposite Falgore Islamiyya Primary School, where it continues to operate.

At the beginning of its journey, the school was supported by a dedicated team of six tutors who contributed significantly to laying the foundation for its academic, Islamic and moral development.

Growth and Academic Achievement

Despite the challenges encountered during its early years, Fathul Majiyd Academy continued to grow and maintain its commitment to academic excellence.

The school produced outstanding students during the 2015/2016, 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions. These achievements helped strengthen the reputation of the Academy within the community and among neighbouring schools.

These accomplishments reflected the dedication and commitment of the school's teachers, administrators, parents and students and demonstrated the potential of the Academy to make a meaningful contribution to the education of children in Falgore and its surrounding communities.

A Challenging Period and a New Beginning

During the third term of the 2016/2017 academic session, the administration of the school underwent a transition. Malam Ahmad Abba was entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Coordinator and Acting Headmaster.

At the same time, the school expanded its educational activities by introducing an Islamiyya session, particularly to accommodate children who had completed their studies in the morning session.

However, the school subsequently entered a particularly challenging period. Inadequate staffing became a serious concern, largely because of the school's financial difficulties and its inability at the time to meet the stipulated monthly remuneration for staff. This placed considerable pressure on the school's operations and threatened its continued sustainability.

Recognising the importance of the Academy to the community and unwilling to see the institution decline, some members of the then teaching staff took the initiative to seek solutions. A series of consultations, discussions and meetings were held among concerned members of the school community.

These efforts culminated in a reform initiative known as the “Review and Revival of the School System.”

The Review and Revival of the School System

The Review and Revival of the School System represented a significant turning point in the history of Fathul Majiyd Academy. The initiative was designed to restore stability, strengthen administration, improve financial accountability, reorganise staffing and establish a more sustainable foundation for the future of the school.

Following the consultations and meetings, a number of important resolutions were reached.

  1. Strengthening the Leadership Structure. It was resolved that Malam Ahmad Isa Barhan should serve as the Caretaking Coordinator. Sani Ismail was to serve as the Caretaking Headmaster for the morning session, while Malam Abubakar Muhammad was to serve as the Caretaking Headmaster for the evening session. This structure was intended to provide clear leadership and ensure effective supervision of both sessions.
  2. Establishment of a School Bank Account. It was resolved that the school should establish and maintain a bank account to promote proper financial management and accountability.
  3. Introduction of Proper Receipting. The school was to issue receipts for payments and financial transactions, creating a more transparent and accountable system for handling school finances.
  4. Improved Management of School Fees. It was resolved that school fees should be paid through the school, either to the Headmaster or by depositing the fees into the school's designated account. This was intended to strengthen financial control and ensure that school income was properly accounted for.
  5. Reconnection with the Main School. The school was to reconnect with its main site at Kafur Local Government Area, thereby strengthening the administrative and institutional relationship between the Falgore branch and the main school. This resolution reflected the importance of maintaining a clear connection with the institution from which the Falgore branch originated.
  6. Updating School Records. The school was to update and properly maintain its records to improve administration, accountability and continuity. Proper record keeping was recognised as an essential part of building an organised and sustainable school system.
  7. Establishment of School Committees. It was resolved that the school should have appropriate community and management structures, including:
    • Parents–Teachers Association (PTA)
    • School-Based Management Committee (SBMC)
These structures were intended to encourage greater participation by parents and the community in the development and administration of the school.
  8. Restructuring of Staff Remuneration. As part of the revival process, the remuneration structure for staff was reviewed in consideration of the financial realities facing the school at the time. The agreed structure provided for:
    • ₦7,500 for each tutor in the morning session.
    • ₦2,500 for each tutor in the evening session.
    • ₦2,500 as the duty-post allowance for the morning Headmaster.
    • ₦1,500 as the duty-post allowance for the evening Headmaster.
It was further recognised that the remuneration structure could be progressively improved as the school's income increased.

A Turning Point in the School's History

The Review and Revival initiative was more than an administrative exercise. It represented the determination of individuals who believed in the importance of Fathul Majiyd Academy to the community and were willing to work towards preserving it during a difficult period.

The resolutions provided a framework for rebuilding the school around responsible leadership, financial accountability, proper record keeping, staff commitment, community participation and continuous improvement.

This period became an important chapter in the Academy's journey and laid a foundation for its continued development.
